Customers last night will have been disappointed to get a 'Number Unobtainable' tone but the phones are now back on for the leading agency in Nottingham.
We’ve decided to try out a text-to-speech option for the website, and after ‘listening’ to a few pages, our first impressions of it are pretty good!
At the moment, TextToSpeech is set up on ALL pages with varying quality and whether it shows or not depending on which device – pc, tablet or mobile – you are using.
To complicate things a little further, text-to-speech has varying quality and positioning depending on which operating system you are using, meaning that viewing on a Firefox browser using your laptop may look entirely different from using a Google Chrome browser on your mobile.
As with any new feature, we rely on you the viewers to let us know whether it’s working for you or not, so please leave any comments regarding this on our SUGGESTIONS PAGE which will be monitored pretty frequently.
After this first install of text-to-speech, we may well limit it’s use to just the various news items from the Midlands Maidens News, the Music Box, the Secret Diary, and Room 101 blog posts, as we don’t want to be found guilty of committing overkill.
Text-to-speech is an obvious aid to those users of the Midlands Maidens website that have visual impairments, and we will be working closely with the developers to try and persuade them to add any relevant enhancements.
It is also pretty accurate apart from the odd ‘robot-text’ statement, so just make sure that before you click on the ‘text-to-speech’ icon that you have your headphones connected, or that you are in isolated surroundings. We’d hate for you to have divorce proceedings summoned on you by the missus because you’ve been caught listening to descriptions of our girls!
That’s all for this time, and enjoy the new toy!
