Christmas TV Ads 2018
It’s that time of year again, where all the shops and companies release their Christmas TV ads to lure you into their premises.
Dunno about you, but it’s a big BAH HUMBUG from us this year, as the Christmas TV ads are a mish-mash of politically correct cartoons and CG imagery of orang-utans, chickens, turkeys, Santa giving his reindeer some carrots from McDonalds and a fox and mouse doing their best to create a ‘Shape of Water‘ scene.
Believe it or not, we’re not great fans of political correctness, or cartoons, or CG imagery – and even less of devotees of finding out how to upgrade Christmas or different ways to carve turkey.
In fact, not fans of turkey full stop – especially as it gets left for boxing day sandwiches.
So for the adverts, we’ve settled on one from the best of a bad bunch, and one from Germany that is how Christmas TV ads SHOULD be made.
Here are our choices for this year:
John Lewis/Elton John – The Boy and the Piano
The advert opens in the present day with a shot of the musician sat at his piano playing the opening notes of “Your Song,” before going back in time to chart his meteoric rise to stardom. Eventually we are shown the origin of his talents: a piano gifted to him for Christmas by his mother and grandmother.
Edeka (German) Christmas TV ad from 2015
Ok, so why are we showing an advert from 2015?
Simple really – a family is for life, not just Christmas – and as far as ads go, this one is a belter!
We’ll do no introductions for this one, we’ll just let you cry:
There you go then, our choice for the Christmas TV ad of 2018, plus one from 2015 in Germany.
Do you agree with our choice?
